General Information
Gastro-Surgery department was started on 19-09-2012 as a sub unit of General Surgery Department.
Government had made it as a separate superspecialty unit on 01-10-2015. It has Two Assistant professors, one senior specialist one junior specialist, Two Senior Residents and two second year residents (who come on rotation from general surgery).
GI Surgery works for all areas which are related to human GIT, Hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. It includes but does not limit to major liver resections, wedge liver resections, portocaval shunts, splenectomy, devascularisation, and proximal spleenorenal shunt. In biliary surgery post cholecystectomy benign biliary strictures, choledochal cyst and cholangiocarcinoma are frequently encountered. Whipples pancreaticoduodectomy, central pancreatectomy, and distal pancreatic resections for carcinoma and benign diseases are done as a part of routinely done procedures.
Laparoscopic specialized procedures as for bariatric surgery (Sleeve, Bypass and MGB), Laparoscopic choledochal cyst, Lap whipples pancreaticoduodenctomy, Lap colorectal, Lap Gastric and esophageal resection are routinely performed.
