Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Through this department following services are provided on outdoor and indoor bases:-
1. Outpatient services:-
OPD Services are provided seven days per week. On an average 400 to 450 patients avail the OPD Services daily and the common type of the patients attends the PMR OPD are:
a. Patient related to musculoskeletal pain, disorder and injury (Neck pain, Back pain, other joints pain, various degenerative and inflammatory arthritis, etc.)
b. Patients with peripheral nerve injury, neuropathy, radiculopathy
c. Leprosy patients
d. Cerebral palsy children
e. Patients with residual deformities
f. Spinal cord Injury (Acute and chronic)
g. Cerebra-vascular accident
h. Hemophilic arthritis
i. Traumatic brain injury
j. Burn patients with deformity
k. Patient related to musculoskeletal deformities
l. Post polio patients with or without deformity
m. Patients for Pulmonary rehabilitation
n. Myopathy and muscular dystrophy
o. Osteoporosis
p. Scoliosis
q. Congenital deformities: CTEV/other foot deformities, Meningo-myelocoel etc.
r. Amputees
s. Regular participation of the faculty members in assessment and certification of various type of disabilities
2. Indoor facility:
PMR Department is having 60 teaching + 134 non-teaching beds and the common types of admitted patients are:
a. Spinal cord injury (Acute and chronic) Traumatic brain injury (Acute and chronic)
b. Cerebra-vascular accident
c. Musculoskeletal pain, disorder and injury
d. Cerebral palsy
e. Osteoporosis
f. Congenital deformities: CTEV/other foot deformities, Meningo-myelocoel etc.
g. Hemophilic arthropathy
h. Amputees etc.
3. Operation Theater:
In PMR department the operation theater run 4 days per week for the Major and the minor operations and for other interventions as well. The common type of the surgeries and interventions which are performed are:
A. Major surgeries:
a. Cerebral palsy corrective surgeries
b. Polio corrective surgeries
c. Amputation and revision Amputation surgeries
d. Flap surgery for various types of pressure ulcers
e. SSG
f. CTEV corrective Surgeries
g. Other Deformity correction surgeries
B. Minor surgeries/procedures:
a. Cystoscopy
b. EMG Guided Botox injections
c. Ultrasound guided intra/peri- articular and soft tissue injections
d. Manipulation and various type of corrective castings
e. Various joints intra-articular steroid injections
f. Sacra-iliac joint injections
g. Caudal epidural Injection for PIVD and various peripheral neuronal blocks.
h. Steroid injections for RA and other inflammatory arthritis
i. Injections for various myo-fascial pain syndromes
4. Physiotherapy Section:
In physiotherapy section the Physiotherapist deals and Guide the various exercise programs to the referred OPD patients and indoor patients involving:
a. Various exercise programs for limbs, spine, Chest PT, Gait Training program etc
b. Electrotherapy facilities (Ultrasonic therapy, SWD, MWD, IFT, etc.)
c. Cervical and lumber traction facility
d. EMG with biofeedback
e. Moto-med training
5. Occupational Section:
This section deals with hand function assessment, training, coordination training, functional assessment and functional training etc.
6. Orthotic and prosthetic section:
On an average >50 amputees and patients with other disabilities attends this department on daily bases and various prosthesis and orthotic are distributed to these patient on daily bases at free of cost. Jaipur PMR Department is famous for Jaipur foot, which was invented in 1968, in Jaipur by Dr P K Sethi with the assistance of Master Ram Chandra Sharma, who brought it to the world's attention. Dr P K Sethi was awarded the Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership in 1981 and the “Padma Shri” by the Government of India in 1981 for his this work. Jaipur is also known as makka and madina for prosthesis limb fittings. It was the vision of Dr P K Sethi that no patent was field on his invention and this has resulted in distribution and manufacturing of the Jaipur foot all over India by various NGO's agencies and persons, as to benefit the amputees as large. Yet, since 1968, over 300,000 limbs have been fitted. Another 600,000 beneficiaries have received calipers, crutches or tricycles. India became the world leader in practical, low-cost foot prosthesis. And the Jaipur foot has become available throughout India and 25 other countries.
7. Disability Board:
The Department is serving the disabled peoples by issuing various disability certificates through various disability boards: (routine disability board, MACT board, jurist board or any specific board).
