Research Projects presently underway
A. Research Design to Explore Frontiers of Human Mind
The nativistic and learned design of underlying Neural Dynamics of Human Mind has been planned to explore its signature in form of Electroencephalographic (EEG) and Event-Related Potentials (ERPs) through conceptualisation of research projects designed to assess varied facets and topography of Human Mind and ongoing exploratory work in this direction include the following:
- A comparative study of event-related potentials within syllables of intra and inter phoneme classes
- A comparative study of profile of Event Related Potential wave form of N400 and P600 during semantic information processing that delineates coherent and incoherent sentences
- A cross sectional study to evaluate the power spectral densities of Electroencephalographic theta and alpha frequency bands during episodic and semantic memory and information processing in apparently young healthy adults
B. Biological Signal Processing
As part of our ongoing work on Biological Signal Processing (BSP) inclusive of data mining and data modelling, The Head of the Institute gave us the onerous responsibility to process and model COVID-19 data in such emergent times of global pandemic and respective measures and efforts were undertaken on following research protocols accordingly:
- Clinico-epidemiological, demographic (inclusive of blood group) and ecological portrayal of COVID-19
- Clinico-radiological and coagulation dysfunction in COVID-19
- Response pattern to available management protocols inclusive of hydroxychloroquine
- Co-morbid conditions and COVID-19
Incidentally, the above efforts were acknowledged and recognised and work on blood group has been forwarded to World health Organisation (WHO)
C. Research projects exploring the dynamics of Autonomic Nervous System
ANS analysis measures neuro-cardiac function which reflects heart-brain interactions and autonomic nervous system dynamics. The autonomic nervous system is involved in the function of virtually every organ system and clinical manifestations of autonomic dysfunction are involved in just about every disease. As a result, ANS analysis is used as a screening and monitoring tool in many disease processes.
Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is a measure of the variation in beat-to-beat intervals in heart rate and serves as a powerful tool in assessment of the autonomic function, hence employed in following projects:
· A Comparative Study for Assessment of Heart Rate Variability in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Patients
· A Comparative Study of Cardiac Autonomic Functions in Psoriasis Patients and Healthy Controls
· A Comparative Study of Autonomic-Functions in Hypothyroid Patient
D. Projects assessing the Issues related to neural dynamics and or psycho-physiological aspects in health and disease
· A Study to Compare the Effect of Traffic Noise in Traffic Policemen and Healthy Controls by Auditory Brain Stem Evoked Response
· A Case Control Study to Compare Electroencephalography parameters in Alcoholic Addicts and Healthy control
· A Cross Sectional Study to Determine Association of Internet Addiction with Depression, Anxiety and Stress among Medical Students.
· Comparative Study of Cognitive Function among Adolescents with Various Levels of Generalized Anxiety Disorder
· A Comparative Study of Auditory Brain Stem Evoked Response in Alcoholics And Non Alcoholics
E. Projects exploring the beneficial effects of yoga and its ability to increase quality of life
· An Interventional Study to find out the Effect of Yoga Practice on Thyroid Profile and Lipid Profile in Women Suffering from Hypothyroidism and Compare it with Control Group
· Comparative Study of Effect of Yoga on Neurophysiological Aspects of Electroencephalogram in Patients of Depression.
