The department comprises of five units with the total bed strength of 150 beds that includes 10 beds of burn ward. Three units are working at MBS Hospital and two units are working at new Medical College Hospital.

Along with regular UG and PG teaching and care of the OPD and IPD patients, almost every type of major, minor and emergency general surgical operations are being performed by the faculty in the department.

30. The Department of Surgery in association with Hadoti Surgical Society, organised RAJASICON-2001, the state level conference of the Association of Surgeons of India (Rajasthan Chapter) in November 2001. Dr. SN Mathur (Professor and Head) was the Organising Chairman, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma (Assistant Professor) was the Organising Joint Secretary and Dr, Renu Ranwaka (Assistant Professor) was the Organising Treasurer for this conference.
31. The Department of Surgery in association with Hadoti Surgical Society organised ASIRAJ-2014, the state level conference of the Association of Surgeons of India (Rajasthan Chapter) during 14-15 October 2014. Dr. RS Meena (Professor and Head) was the Organising Chairman and Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma (Professor) was the Chairman Scientific Committee for this conference.
