Orthopaedics was a part of Surgery deptt. before 1967. Later on it was developed into a separate deptt. with 25 beds which has now been increased to 60 with the rise in population and the deptt. increased with a simultaneous increase in the number of surgeries performed. The orthopaedics outdoor was later shifted to the new building.
Keeping in pace with the great advancement in the field of orthopaedics the new Ilisa Rao Technique has been started for the benefit of the patients. P.G. Studies were started in the deptt. from 1982. The same year the work of A.O. began and a Formalin-Bone Bank was established. In 1990 C-Arm Image intensifier was brought which greatly helped in the surgical work.
Modernization of the deptt with new equipment such as AO., Orthoscope, A.C. Laminal flow operation theatre ,Closed I.M. Nailing apparatus increased the use of new methods in the surgical procedures.
A Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre is also functioning in the deptt since 1969.
This is the second deptt in Rajasthan where artificial limbs are provided "Jaipur Foot" is being provided since 1982. A Microwave Traction System for the treatment of disease of the vertebral column is being used since 1990.
